On September 16 and 17, 2026, the GIP Littoral (Coastal Management Group) will host the second event of the European SMART Coast project in the Basque Country Agglomeration Community, in Ciboure and Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
This meeting is part of the ongoing Littoral 2030 initiative led by the GIP (Public Interest Group) and of the work carried out with local authorities to improve the understanding and management of visitor flows, enhance the organization of visitor services, and promote the exchange of experiences between coastal areas.
Over the course of these two days, participants will share the progress of the SMART Coast project, compare local and European experiences, and identify practical strategies for improving visitor management in coastal destinations.
On September 16, the programme will be structured around four sessions: an opening session, a presentation on the project’s progress, a roundtable discussion on regional and European initiatives, and site visits focusing on visitor management and development projects along the Basque coast. French–English interpretation will be provided throughout the day.
On September 17, the programme will continue with participatory workshops bringing together project partners and local stakeholders to discuss the initiative’s main themes. The morning will conclude with a Steering Committee meeting reserved for SMART Coast beneficiary partners.
This event will strengthen the partnership, foster knowledge exchange, and provide an opportunity for participants to review the project’s initial achievements.
The outcomes of these two days will help inform the next stages of the SMART Coast project, including the continuation of pilot activities and the consolidation of the lessons learned.
