Launch of the European “SMART Coast” Project to Promote More Sustainable Coastal Tourism

Project partners gathered in Cantabria to launch a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering regenerative tourism and improving visitor-flow management in coastal areas.

The region of Cantabria (Spain) has officially launched the “SMART Coast” project, funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, which aims to promote more sustainable and regenerative coastal tourism.

The kick-off meeting, held in December 2025, served to strengthen cooperation among project partners and establish implementation priorities, as well as to engage with society in order to raise interest and awareness of the challenges involved in managing visitor flows.

During the event, several presentations were delivered on the project’s main areas of action: Knowledge Capacity Building, Pilot Projects, and Dissemination and Transfer Activities. Participants also visited the pilot project sites in Liencres and took part in a working session with stakeholders
